Laser & Shockwave Therapy at OsteoSolution

What can Shockwave and Laser therapy treat?
Shockwave/Laser Therapy can dramatically reduce the pain associated with many musculoskeletal conditions, and forms of pain associated with soft tissue injuries, arthritis, inflammation and sports injuries including:

EXTRACORPOREAL SHOCKWAVE THERAPY (ESWT)

What is Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)?
ESWT sends a series of sound waves into an injured site on the body. There is no involvement of an “electrical shock”, rather a mechanical force is used. Extracorporeal means “outside the body,” so this is a non-surgical treatment often used for the treatment of chronic pain.

How does ESWT work?
ESWT transmits a mechanical force into the body’s tissue, activating the body’s natural healing process. The new response causes an increase in blood flow and metabolism to the injury site, jump starting the healing phase of chronic injuries, promoting pain reduction. In effect, the shock waves break up the scarring that has penetrated tendons, ligaments and other soft tissues in the body, and reactivate the body’s natural and pain reducing processes.

CLASS IV LASER THERAPY

Class IV Laser Therapy treatment delivers deep, penetrating photonic energy (light energy) into the affected tissues of the body. Laser Therapy works by energizing damaged cells and increasing circulation to the affected area.
Research shows that chronic conditions respond best to laser therapy because damaged cells accept photon energy better than normal, healthy cells (photobiostimulation). The Class IV Laser therapy treatment gives:

  • A fast reduction of pain
  • A fast reduction of inflammation
  • Accelerated healing
  • Improved nerve function
  • Increased blood flow
  • Increased cell metabolism, and vascular
    activity within the tissues
  • Accelerated soft tissue and bone repair
  • Increased collagen production
  • Enhanced creation of new blood vessels
  • Improved nerve conduction
  • Decreased muscle spasm and pain

BENEFITS OF SHOCKWAVE AND CLASS IV LASER THERAPY

  • Non-surgical
  • No Medications
  • Stimulates the body's natural healing process
  • In office treatment
  • Short treatment time
  • Reduces pain
  • Virtually no side effects

TREATMENT INFORMATION

Am I a candidate?
Only a physician who knows your complete medical profile can determine if ESWT/Laser is for you.

Are Shockwave and Class IV Laser Therapy Always Used Together?
In many cases, using these treatments together can often provide better results than using them individually, so they are not always used together. We are one of the few providers to offer these treatments in combination, and have developed proprietary treatment protocols in collaboration with Mt. Sinai Hospital (Toronto). Your doctor will determine what treatment options are best for you.

How Long does treatment last?
The treatment takes approximately 5-10 minutes and would usually be performed once per week over several weeks (or as prescribed by your physician.)

Will I be in pain after the treatment?
Some people experience some swelling, redness, and pain at the treatment site, but this usually dissipates within a few hours.
