Osteoporosis is a condition in which the microarchitecture of bone deteriorates over time. This leads to a decrease in bone mass and an increased risk of fragility fractures. Osteoporosis affects 1.4 million Canadians each year and is most common among post-menopausal women. Risk factors include advanced age, family history, previous fragility fractures, menopause, decreased calcium intake and malnutrition. Bone mineral density (BMD) testing is the gold standard for the diagnosis and detection of osteoporosis.
Our Active exercise program can help to prevent further bone loss, maintain bone density, improve strength and increase overall quality of life!
